Thoughts on the 2007 Sweet Corn Festival
Another unbelievable and amazing second weekend of August is in the books, thanks to family, friends, and carnies. The overcast rain-filled days in MN and IL sort of summarize the fact that the Sweet Corn Festival is done for another year. As has always been the case with the most recent SCF, this year's without a doubt ranks as the best one yet.
A couple of you out there are likely surprised I hold the 2007 one with such high regard. The 2007 SCF was a roller coaster ride like none other. As the carnival began to tear down that Sunday night, and I started to sulk and Miles slowly became sober, I was not sure if I could rank the 2007 SCF that high. But during the days immediately afterwords, I realized this SCF was one of perseverance too. How so? Well I was listening to the 2007 SCF Soundtrack titled "Keep on Rockin' in the Sweet Corn" (Yes there is a soundtrack), which was made over a month before the carnival rolled into Mendota, and the final tune on that album is Queen's "We Are The Champions". It was then, cruising the lonely Mendota strip, the central IL corn fields, and the long road back to 10,000 Lakes, that I realized us Mendotans truly are champions thanks to the SCF. You can throw a few bad corn cobs our way, but during SCF weekend us Mendotans will persevere! Shut up Luke...
Thanks again to all Mendotans for making it a thrilling SCF. Oh yes, also much praise to visitors like 'Vis, Roop, Tokeshia, Jamie, and Tanya who showed true SCF heart and I am sure will be back for more butter, salt, and Raz. But let's not embellish too much in the 2007 SCF, as now is the time to grab your date for SCF 2008! This spectacle will feature 8/8/08, crowned already by Scruff as "The Greatest Day Ever". Will it is also feature a Friedlein in the pageant? It very well may see college buds Bobby, Danno, and Derek make their first appearances to the event they have incessantly heard about over the years. Eleven and a half months ... TICK TICK TICK!
Thanks all,
MTF

The corn festivial was great this year! I have already began my competative corn eating practice so that I will win next year. By the way is there any way you can stop these rain storms in Illinois so that I can go play golf for my school? Any way go Illini and Huskies. (Kickoff 2 weeks away baby)

I have never heard of the Sweet Corn Festival, but I checked out its website, and it seems like a lot of fun. We go to the Indiana State Fair every summer to get our sweet corn fix...there's nothing that encapsulates summer like butter sweet corn on the cob! I live down in Atlanta now, so I'm still trying to find a restaurant or fair that give me that same Indiana sweet corn!
Take care,
Jill

One of the speakers asked how many women had been harassed or abused sexually in their life? There were thousands of women in the audience, and almost every one of them raised her hand.
