Labor Day Weekend

Hello All,
Well September is here, and to many that may mean the end of summer.  If so, what an end I had, courtesy of B-Mengler, Guider, and assorted characters.  It's too long to tell you about, but here are some details...

* Well this is a weather page, so weather first.  Gustav makes landfall. Nowhere near a Katrina, but given its landfall location and strength it was not far from that. The National Hurricane Center did a remarkable job with the forecasts on this, both path and intensity. The models were all over the places from AL to TX. The rain from Gustav will make it up to northern and central IL. This can happen occasionally with a storm that makes landfall on TX or LA.  All eyes now on Hanna, then Ike and Josephine.

* NIU vs Minnesota game was awesome.  Once again a close loss to a Big Ten team, and the Gophers got lucky at the end.  Broncos going to take a beaten next week in KalamaZOO!  Chandler Harnish for Heisman!

* Don't mess with Bobby and the "Flabongo".  Four in a forty minutes!

* Talked on the phone to Scruff at his bachelor party Saturday night back in Peoria.  We exchanged "mmmbooyah's".  Scruff insults Bobby, hilarious!  Will make up missing the party to you in October Scruff!

* Everyone has heard random and crazy mixed CDs.  None more insane than Bobby's I guarantee.  Everything from sound clips to overwhelming bass to remixed oriental songs to Justin Timberlake is one of a kind.

* Bridesmaid Sammy, whom I hadn't talked to in weeks, calling us on our drive to Chicago immediatley inquiring about "doing the nasty"!  Mengler!

* Arriving back at Mengler's in Schaumburg, Smiley had been cooking us brats on the grill since 8 am!  Amazing meal!

* Intense drive to the church ... technically one minute late.  The first thing I hear in the church is a "woo-woo" from Sammy.

* Beautiful wedding!  The guys were on their best behavior, believe it or not.

* Reception was once again a classic.  Huge meal, ample wine, Guider "playing the bottle", ghost knucks and space pounds all around, NIU group picture, a professional Guider, Mengler, and MTF pic, and finally a dance floor tumble because I was jealous of the Guider wedding spill! : )  Mengler your spills were worse though I will admit!

* Lots of insulting Vujea too.  Ha!

* Convo with Heitz around 1 am where he once again promptly expresses his colorful opinion on meteorology.  If he is reading this, Georgia 66  Central Michigan 7.

* Not happy with the sleeping arrangements!  Mengler and I head to toe.

* Greyhound bus ride back ... worth a blog in itself.  To summarize:
   - Overbooked bus.
   - Bus then breaks down in Skokie.
   - No A/C for 40 minutes, 89 degrees at the time, kids screaming, people arguing.
   - 12 year old girl next to me keeps me sane by talking about how she loves bus rides.
   - Get to Milwaukee late, miss our connection.
   - Contracted out driver gets lost multiple times in Milwaukee. Asks random guy at gas station for directions.
   - Have to then go through Green Bay. Look quickly for Favre memorabilia for Mengler. None found anymore.
   - Had no lunch and told we would stop for dinner. Finally do at 730 pm. Luxurious McDonalds.
   - Driver pulls over in rural western Wisconsin to yell at kids in the back. Refers to them as "little people".
   - Get back to Minneapolis at 11 pm, and just before arriving at the station see packed streets. Amidst this, from the bus, I see Rudy Giuliani!  He and a lady (third wife?) and two likely security guards were walking out of a high class restaurant and across the street.  They must have had went over there along with several other GOP big wigs after the convention.  What a wild ending to another wild weekend.

Quiet September now?  Hardly.  Summer is NOT DONE!  "Hurricane hunting" in two weeks!

You know how we do it!  From the 'Sota to the 'Dota, mmmmmmmmbooyah!

      Hurricane Hunting -
      1. (v) The process by which a reconnaissance aircraft flies routes through a hurricane to take measurements of central pressure, maximum wind speed, and other storm characteristics.

      2. (v) The renegade process by which MTF travels to the Sunshine State to learn more than just about Hurricanes Fay, Hanna, and Josephine.

Hurricane hunting? That sounds intense! Most people try to get away from the hurricane, but you're going after it. Have fun and be safe!
