April - New Month, New Blog Approach

Breezers,
I apologize right out the gates.  But I also thank you for your interest and caring ... probably about the weather, and not me, but still.  I love the voicemails/e-mails/texts/and recent Breeze comments, even as rude as some were (Guider and Vis).  The MTF is going to make it up to all of you ... one entry per day in April to make up for none in March.  Already I can promise the first couple won't be long, some maybe even a sentence (corporate e-mail?), but they'll get better and longer as the month goes on.  And I can guarantee that severe weather will pick up this April.
To quickly summarize March, weatherwise and otherwise

  • Early hours of March 1st, received probably the most hilarious yet ugly voicemail from Mengler/Guider/Vujea in Dayton.  Started the month out with a bang.  Mind you at 2 am central time, 3 am their time.
  • Severe weather season has begun, not really in MN or IL but anyday now as the Gulf states have shown.  Winter will not give up though, as shown by the 3-5 inches from Mendota-DeKalb on Sunday and the one inch diameter flakes here in the Cities last night.
  • Skywarn spotter training season has begun.  It has been great thus far.  Looking forward to some fun classes in latter April.  If you want to be a spotter, you only have a few more weeks to do it!
  • Flooding in the eastern Dakotas/Minnesota has been bad and borderline horrible, in particular the Red River of the North.  If you have not seen the pictures from Fargo/Moorhead, you should take a look.  Unbelievable.  And the dikes and makeshift flood walls will have to last through April as they just received 8-14 inches of snow which will inevitably melt quickly.  This has kept us quite busy in the workplace.  The Illinois River also is in bad shape for quieting down anytime soon.  For the farmers out there, not going to be a pretty or timely planting season I fear.
  • Big D Man, the greatest roommate ever, is engaged!  Forecasting him and Robyn a great next year of planning.  Don't you dare choose the second weekend of August, 2010 for that wedding however.  Also, Fuller is engaged!  2010 will surpass 08 on those wedding/class reunion dance floors I predict!  mmmbooyah!
  • No Mengler, I'm not engaged nor dead.  Busy.  How's "the Secret"?
  • My "Spring Break" was ridiculously good.  From DeKalb/Sycamore, to Sandwich, to Chicago, to West Lafayette, to Bloomington IN and IL, to Evansville, to Chambana, and to the World's Greatest Little City ... that was just what the Doctor ordered.  Only things missing were Peoria and Schaumburg.  Next time.
  • BAKED, an all hours cookie store in Bloomington, IN was amazing.  Also had the best pizza I've had yet.  Sorry Garcia's.  Taste-testing wine in Evansville just as ridiculously good.  I have a new appreication for IL's eastern neighbor.  As for its western neighbor of Iowa???  Nope.
  • Had to do a recon mission for Sparky while home.  I was actually at the Moose and he was not.  I was afraid, very afraid.  All was well when I found him in the basement, recovering from a long prior night.  When asking if he wanted to go out with Miles and me ... he fell ill again.
  • A huge surprise was attending the NCAA men's b-ball tournament first round games here in Minneapolis.  Saw Kansas/NDSU, which was an awesome atmosphere.  Ten points away from the greatest upset in college b-ball history.  Also saw Vujea's Dayton Flyers and their rocking pep band put the hurting on West Virginia.  Thank you Cari and Nadine for that!
  • Also went to the first round of the NCAA Hockey Tourney with Chuck and Mike.  Saw possibly the best sports game finish in person I have ever seen.  U-MN Duluth scores two goals in the final 40 seconds to tie Princeton, and then defeats them in a roller coaster OT.  Amazing.  Rivals NIU-Wake and NIU-Maryland for best athletic finishes yet.
  • Southwest Airlines flying to Minneapolis now!  About time!  MSP to MDW ... pocket change.  Well, not exactly, but still not bad.  Northwest matching.  Cheap to ORD too.
  • Way to go passing the Basic Skills test Heath!  Give that girl the Advanced Skills test.
  • Despite flying by and feeling like there was zero time, March had to be one of the better months.  Even rivaling Augusts of the past.  Ha!  Much more to come on that.
Will call you back Scruff/Mengler/Jimmy/Luke/Slim soon.  Will e-mail you Holzner/Wuj about Shuttle and plans in Flo'da come May.  I'm a go for it.  Does anyone know if Sparky is alive?  I miss you guys...even you Luke.  Sunday I head out for Rapid City, SD for a conference and then back and gearing up for severe weather.  A post every day though this April.

Copyright Cari...although this is how it looked to me too after being up for 24+ hours.

DOTA representing in the SOTA!

We took a month off, but I hope no one has forgotten how we do it ... from the 'SOTA to the 'DOTA,

      Mengler,
Sorry about that. I am just so used to seeing Vujea's corporate signature saying DRAGONS. I corrected it in the entry above. We'll have to have some corporate e-mail chat soon. Going to have one of those Sept-type days coming up. Minimum 300 in a day.
