City of New Orleans / More Late Season Snow for MN/IL
Breezers,
Real quick entry here. Yesterday, the south saw 200 reports of severe weather as the below map shows. One of the wind damage reports was by Amtrak. A tree blown down on the tracks led to the collision and stopping of the City of New Orleans line in Mississippi, arguably the most noteworthy Amtrak line which runs from Chicago to N'awleans. A conductor suffered minor injuries.

Attention immediately turns back north, as another round of late season heavy snow is set for the Midwest. This time, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, and southern Minnesota will be ground zero. On Saturday night into Sunday, a wicked system is expected to move from Kansas into Illinois, bringing snow on it's northern periphery. Snow amounts of 10-15 inches are likely in parts of eastern NE and western and northern IA. Blizzard conditions are also expected, and I am already predicting I-80 is closed by Sunday afternoon. At this time...some snow, even accumulations, are possible in northern and western Illinois Sunday night and very early Monday. Old Man Winter is not going to give up...sorry Guider. And actually, long range models through the next 10 days to two weeks, struggle to bring any above normal temperatures to the Midwest and show multiple chances for snow. April...what?
The snow is delaying a time bomb up here for the Red River. While it may have dropped from national news, it will be back, as 12-20 inches of snow sit over its headwaters. This snow will inevitably melt quickly as later April comes, leading to another crest which will jeopardize the levees in Fargo, ND and Moorehead, MN. That's actually what I will be headed to watch now, as we've been staffing the state EM center in St. Paul through this event. Then to the office for the evening shift, so sorry Mengler no phone date tonight. That'll put me nearly three weeks in the hole to you ... scrilla!
Anybody notcing problems with the VIP pages on MAC computers? Let me know. Thanks SlimSchrady for the report. I'll give you a courtesy bump up in the VIPs ... no offense Mammens.
From the 'Sota to the 'Dota,
MTF

I am thinking about starting my own blog called "The Gust." You can count on "The Gust" being updated when promised unlike this site.
